Subject: Elvis Aaron Presley
Birth Information: 1/8/1935 ~ 4:35:00 ~ Tupelo, Ms.
Elvis Presley was an American singer and entertainer of the 20th century. Presley rose to fame in the late 1950s for his charismatic performances that challenged the cultural norms of the day. His impact on the landscape of popular music in America was considerable, as evidenced by the moniker “The King of Rock and Roll” that was given to him.
Presley’s singing career waned through the mid-1960s when he was first drafted into the army and then ventured into acting afterward. His popularity surged again in the late 1960s when he decided to return to a musical career exclusively.
Throughout his career, Presley struggled with substance abuse, poor management of his finances, difficult personal relationships, and the pressures of maintaining an image that had become inexorably tied to the pop culture zeitgeist of his generation. He succumbed to heart disease in 1977 at the age of 42.
Presley’s influence on music and pop culture is significant and his iconic persona remains ever-identified with the music and culture of the era in which he rose to fame.
The 1st House: Sagittarius
Sagittarians are driven by their beliefs and become identified through them. They are individuals who desire to have a purpose, belief, or philosophy to live by and express themselves through.
Moon is the only planet rasi aspecting the 1st House. Moon is the lord of the 8th House and this aspect is going to bring self-expression, emotional connection, and attachment to the 1st House of self-image, body, and personality. Moon is waxing, so it will bring increases to a person’s life over time.
As ruler of the 8th, the influence of the Moon will make a personality that is fueled by their hidden inner emotions, their anxieties and emotional defenses, and their need for sexual intimacy. Moon is in an enemy’s dignity, so it will bring a miserable quality to these influences and create insecurities and inflexibilities around them.
Moon is the natural karaka of the mother and it resides in the 4th House of the mother. Moon is Presley’s Darakaraka planet, indicating it represents the individual’s spouse as well. This will give a strong identification with one’s mother, spouse, happiness, and one’s deepest emotions. The Moon will bring disturbances to the 1st House of self-projection through sudden breaks and changes to one’s embodied experience.
This tells us that part of Elvis’ self-experience will entail emotional difficulties from both their mother and their spouse and these experiences will involve unresolved emotional issues and traumas that can have a lasting impact on the longevity of the body experience. The death of Presley’s mother in 1958 was a loss from which he never fully recovered. Presley only married once and that relationship suffered from emotional instability and infidelity. Its failure had a deep and lasting impact on the rest of Presley’s life.
The 1st Lord: Jupiter
Jupiter is placed in the 12th House of Scorpio and is in a great friend’s dignity. This means there will be delight around Jupiter expressing its agenda. Jupiter is in Kumara state and is Svapna, which means that the karmas associated with Jupiter are young and starting to come into the individual’s conscious awareness.
Jupiter’s Shadbala
Jupiter’s total Shadbala score is 381.6. When we look at Jupiter’s Shadbala we find the following: Sthana Bala 106%, Dig Bala 141%, Kala Bala 87%, Ayana Bala 28%, Chesta Bala 42%, and Drig Bala -5.
We see strength in integrity (Sthana) and in directing (Dig), indicating they will be able to stand in their Jupiter and direct it well.
But we also see a low score in Kala Bala, indicating there will be some difficulty during their Jupiter periods in deriving meaning from those karmic experiences. We also see a very low score in Ayana Bala, so there will be difficulty in dealing with conflicts because they have trouble facing them and in knowing how to deal with them.
Jupiter’s Chesta Bala is also low indicating there isn’t going to be a lot of confidence behind working their Jupiter. This makes him less willing to try when negative impacts come his way.
Finally, Jupiter’s Drig Bala score is a -5. That tells us that Jupiterian things won’t work out so well for the individual.
Jupiter is evenly split in its yoga judgment score of +4.7/-5.0. This is going to indicate a mixture of both positive and negative influences associated with the Bhava Yoga of the 1st lord going into the 12th, indicating Presley will have trouble with spending too much money and with incurring expenses. When Jupiter is afflicted, it can make a person overly optimistic, which can open oneself up to excessive spending. Presley was known to spend lavishly and was very generous in gift-giving to friends and strangers alike.
Jupiter is Presley’s Matrukaraka planet and also the lord of the 4th House. This reinforces earlier indications that Presley’s mother was a strong presence in their life. Jupiter is also the natural karaka of children. Indicating that will also be an important factor in their 1st House experience.
Moon is bringing 162.2 points of delight to Jupiter. Moon is going to tie in the individual’s consciousness to one’s body and personality, empowering one’s self-projection with purpose and emotional contentment. Moon is also waxing, so its external effects will grow during a person’s life, increasing one’s outward fulfillment in their 1st House agendas. But because of the Moon’s dignity, a certain amount of bad will come with the good, which will bring difficulty in finding lasting contentment.
Mars is also delighting Jupiter with 519.9 points. Mars is going to color one’s personality with passion, courage, and logic. Mars is going reinforce success in one’s self-projection and help the individual make the most of the 1st House by giving them a drive towards the self-expression of their underlying beliefs.
Mercury is bringing 12.8 points of starvation to Jupiter. This impact will not stop the agendas of Jupiter but it can result in over-analysis of things from time to time that can get in the way of things, which might make the individual overanalyze their expenses and losses a little too much.
Mercury rasi aspecting Jupiter will bring 7th and 10th House themes of relationships, career, status, and activity in the world to their physical 1st House experience. The negative Avashtas associated with this aspect can make them analyze their relationships and career a little too much from time to time and create difficulty in accepting the bad with the good from those things.
Venus is bringing 34.3 points of starvation to Jupiter. This starvation will be felt a little more strongly than that of Mercury’s and will make the person look a little too much for happiness in things like luxuries, vehicles, and rich foods.
Venus also rasi aspects Jupiter in the 12th, indicating that 6th and 11th House themes of work, health, gains, aspirations, and social relationships will be a part of their 1st House experience. Because of the starvation of Venus, these will be areas in which the individual will put too much focus in their search for lasting happiness with their bodily experience.
Venus is Presley’s Atmakaraka, which is going to add confluence to the 12th House was the main focus of Presley’s life.
Sun rasi aspects Jupiter. Sun as a natural karaka of the 1st will strengthen Jupiter, particularly around 9th House themes. The Sun will reinforce the individual’s higher aspirations for identifying with their beliefs. But Sun is a separating influence so there will be sacrifices made around one’s sense of purpose in their life trajectory.
We find in our analysis of the 1st that the key to Presley’s life trajectory will be directed toward themes of the 12th House. This is because we have the Lagna lord, the Sun, and the Atmakaraka all directing their energies on the 12th, making it a very strong focus for Presley’s life path.
The 2nd House: Capricorn
Capricorn is the 10th sign of practicality, desire for fame, and seclusion and it also provides the foundation for the 2nd house of resources and responsibilities.
Jupiter is the only planet rasi aspecting the 2nd House. Sun, Mercury, and Venus occupy the 2nd House.
We find in the 2nd House that the energies of the Lagna lord, the Sun, and the Atmakaraka being directed to it, indicating the 2nd House of personal resources and wealth will be a strong focus of Presley’s life path along with the 12th.
Jupiter is in a great friend’s dignity. Jupiter will bring fortune, optimism, grace, and creativity to the 2nd of wealth, self-worth, and personal income. Through its aspect, Jupiter is going to help the affairs of the 2nd manifest with luck, good fortune, and ease. Having the lord of the 1st and 4th aspecting the 2nd House indicates this was an area that Presley identified with a sense of responsibility towards providing for his family.
Sun is placed in the 2nd House. Sun is in a neutral dignity here. Sun will bring consistency, vitality, creativity, and authority to 2nd House affairs. This means that Presley was average in his capacity towards making the sacrifices needed for the intelligent management of one’s resources consistently.
Mercury is also placed in the 2nd. It is in a friend’s dignity here, but it also combusts. Indicating that the agendas of Mercury are going to be blocked by the Sun. Mercury is bringing communication, speech, rational intelligence, and a sense of fair play to the 2nd. Having Mercury combust by the Sun means that Mercury is going to have trouble manifesting these qualities easily in the 2nd House. Making it difficult for Presley to express himself in a direct way to establish healthy boundaries around people he saw as authority figures in his life.
Venus is placed in the 2nd. Venus is in a great friend’s dignity. Venus brings wife, daughters, music, and luxury to the house of material well-being and family. Venus and the Sun are great enemies to each other with this placement, which causes mutual starvation. Venus is going to cause Presley to rely too much on the counsel of others rather than on his inspiration. Sun is going to cause separation from fulfilling his relationship with his wife and his daughter due to the striving for the achievement of one’s inspirations and ambitions.
Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker, stole much of Presley’s fortune by engineering contracts that quite often gave him the lion’s share of the profits. Presley was reluctant to confront Parker about this and turned a blind eye to it.
Presley’s relationship with his wife, Priscilla, was dictated by his career and public image. Priscilla was 14 years old and Presley was 24 when they began their relationship. Fear of alienating female fans and questions of morality around their age differences resulted in their relationship being kept secret. Keeping Priscilla out of the spotlight left her physically separated from Elvis through much of their early relationship.
The 2nd Lord: Saturn
Saturn is in its Own House of Aquarius, which means that Saturn will be secure in its capacity to give perseverance and a strong work ethic to the 2nd House of gathering material resources. Saturn is in a Mrita state and is Jagrat, which means the karmas associated with Saturn are essentially finished and are active in the person’s conscious experience.
Saturn’s Shadbala
Saturn’s total Shadbala score is 392.0. When we look at Saturn’s Shadbala we find the following: Sthana Bala 180%, Dig Bala 73%, Kala Bala 123%, Ayana Bala 233%, Chesta Bala 36%, and Drig Bala +45.
We see strength in integrity (Sthana) and in dealing with conflicts (Ayana); Presley’s Ayana score is particularly strong. When Saturn is strong in Ayana Bala it helps one endure conflicts. That doesn’t mean one is good at confronting, it just means they are good at putting up with it and waiting it out without really resolving it.
Saturn is also strong in Kala Bala, indicating that Presley will feel the impacts of Saturn during its Dasha. Presley’s Saturn period started on 3/14/1959, just after he was drafted into the military, and lasted until his death on 8/6/1977. During this time, Presley made 29 films, recorded 38 albums, and performed 664 concerts during his Las Vegas residency alone between 1969 and 1976. Arguably, the most impactful and significant chapter of his life.
Saturn is weak in direction (Dig) and confidence (Chesta). This tells that Presley struggled to hear Saturn’s voice and work towards what he wanted, indicating a potential for regret. On the plus side, Saturn is strong in Drig Bala which means that Saturnine things will work out for him very well overall.
Saturn’s yoga judgment is weak (+2.4/-16.5), indicating that the Bhava Yogas of the 2nd lord in the 3rd will be strongly negative. The negative impacts of this Yoga can make a person prone to overwork, especially when it comes to their artistic endeavors. Presley was introduced to amphetamines while in the military in the late 1950s, during a time when the hazards of such drugs were generally unknown. Presley saw the use of amphetamines as beneficial to maintaining his rigorous schedule and relied on them extensively to maintain his productive work schedule.
Saturn is with Rahu. Rahu’s placement indicates an area of life where the individual lacks knowledge and experience, so there will be confusion around the agendas of that house. This can result in wasted effort and a lack of realistic expectations around the areas of life Rahu is influencing. The negative impact of Saturn as ruler of the 2nd in the 3rd can lead to one being wasteful in the use of their resources. Rahu’s placement is going to reinforce this as a part of Presley’s 2nd House experience.
Mars is the only planet rasi aspecting Saturn. Its influence will cause frustration and a lack of patience. Mars is also graha aspecting Saturn, hitting Saturn with 148.1 points of starvation, which is going to amplify Presley’s natural insecurities and feelings that he is falling behind and, therefore, can’t succeed.
By the late 1960s, Presley’s musical career had stalled due to his decision to focus on acting. Other acts like the Beatles had taken over the charts and the cultural landscape, while his music seemed no longer as popular or relevant, leaving Presley feeling deeply depressed.
Sun is also starving Saturn. Its impact is only 29.4 points but it is still greater than the only support Saturn is getting from Mercury at 10.4 points. Sun is going to reinforce awareness of one’s weaknesses, triggering a need to overcompensate rather than correct the weakness.
Fortunately for Presley, this Avashta isn’t strong enough to derail him. Presley’s response to his flagging musical career was to stage a comeback by executing his first television performance since 1961 to reintroduce him to the public as a musician. The performance, which later came to be known as the ‘68 Comeback Special, focused on stripped-down musical performances that highlighted Presley’s prowess as a performer and its overnight success proved to be a turning point in re-establishing his musical career.
The Hora
When we look at the Hora we see Saturn in neutral dignity. We see again, a rasi aspect from Mars to Saturn. This is going to impact Presley’s ability to meet his responsibilities by creating frustration with his capacity to achieve, creating expenses and debt as a result.
Mars is in a friend’s dignity and is benefiting from the aspect of Jupiter, which is going to help Presley to feel optimistic about his capacity to achieve and overcome difficulties in meeting his responsibilities.
Jupiter’s in neutral dignity in the D2, but in a great friend’s dignity in the D1, which means that while Jupiter is going to help to bring wealth, Presley isn’t going to feel satisfied with it.
Moon, the primary karaka of the 2nd, is in an enemy’s dignity, which is going to reinforce feelings of a lack of satisfaction and emotional fulfillment around their career, wealth, and resources.
Sun is in a great friend’s dignity. Sun is going to bring consistency to Presley’s approach to meeting his responsibilities and maintaining his wealth. Venus and Mercury are neutral in the D2. This tells us he only had an average capacity for wealth from speculative investments, jewelry, and art.
Saturn’s Vesi Yoga
This is the first of two important Yogas concerning Saturn. A Vesi Yoga is formed by a planet, other than Moon, Rahu, or Ketu, occupying the 2nd from the Sun. Planets that form a Vesi Yoga indicate those things the individual takes care of, uses, and draws benefits from in their life. Qualities that become more evident in the person as they draw from them more over the course of their life.
Because of the malefic quality of Saturn, how the person takes care of and makes use of these benefits will be executed in a harsh way by forcing things to their limits. This Vesi Yoga will make Presley push the limits of his ambitions and endurance to provide for himself and his family, taxing his capacity to generate material resources and hold onto his possessions.
When taking this yoga into consideration, we see how the drive to squeeze the most out of the things one takes care of and receives benefits from is going to be a powerful force behind Presley’s constant work schedule, drug use, and eventual health decline.
The 3rd House: Aquarius
The 3rd House is in Aquarius. Aquarius is the 11th Sign and represents idealism and innovation. The 3rd House represents mental qualities and research, indicating an emphasis on utilizing one’s skills and abilities in a new and noble way.
Mars is the only planet rasi aspecting the 3rd house. Saturn, its lord, and Rahu are placed in the 3rd House.
Mars is in a friend’s dignity and is going to bring logic and a sense of what is right and what is wrong to the House of desires, courage, learning, and motivation.
Mars will bring 5th House themes of creativity and children as well as 12th House themes of liberation and expenses to the 3rd. Mars is the natural karaka of the 3rd, so its impact is going to strengthen the impact of brothers, coworkers, and associates in a person’s 3rd house experience.
Elvis’s entourage was dubbed The Memphis Mafia by the media. It was a group made up of old friends and relatives who surrounded Presley and acted as a protective brotherhood, taking care of his personal and professional needs. Presley would often engage in rough and dangerous competitions with his mafia, one of which involved shooting fireworks at each other at close range.
Saturn is going to strengthen the agendas of the 3rd House due to it being in its Own Home. This creates a “self-abiding” Avashta that is going to make Saturn confident in its handling of 3rd House affairs.
Rahu in the 3rd indicates a person who is becoming individualized very quickly. The goal of their life experience is to develop inner security by becoming more accepting of the strengths and weaknesses of their life in a balanced and psychologically healthy way. To do this, they must test their beliefs out and find out what is going to work for them instead of finding security through a belief system, which is what worked for them in the past.
The 3rd lord: Saturn
Saturn is the lord of the 3rd House. Saturn is in its Own House in Aquarius. This means that Saturn will be secure in its capacity to give perseverance and practicality to the 3rd House of mental intelligence. Saturn is in a Mrita state and is Jagrat, which means the karmas associated with Saturn are essentially finished and are active in the person’s conscious experience.
In our analysis of Saturn as the 2nd lord, we explored Saturn’s Shadbala in detail and discovered that Saturn’s strong Kala Bala score indicates he will feel the impacts of his during his Saturn period and that his Ayana Bala score helped him to endure life’s conflicts but he will also have trouble in hearing Saturn’s voice. We also found that overall, Saturn-related things will work well for him.
We also learned Saturn is weak in yoga judgment so the Bhava Yogas of the 3rd lord in the 3rd will be strongly negative. But we can’t ignore completely that Saturn is in its Own House, which will give some positive effects to the Yogas associated with being the ruler of the 3rd in the 3rd. This is going to help Presley to be in the right place at the right time and work to surround him with a strong group of associates. But it will also make him impulsive, fearful, and seek to overcompensate for perceived weakness.
Saturn is with Rahu. Anytime Rahu is involved, there will be confusion around the agenda of the planets and houses that it aspects. This is because Rahu’s placement indicates an area of life where the individual lacks knowledge and experience. This can result in wasted effort and a lack of realistic expectations around the areas of life Rahu is influencing.
The developmental goal of an individual with Rahu in the 3rd House is to become at ease with themselves and their personality just as they are, warts and all.
Saturn with Rahu is going to generate a lot of emotional turmoil and insecurity around the success of one’s efforts. There is going to be confusion around one’s ambitions and initiative. The aspect coming from Mars tells us there will be a focus on a person developing the healthy use of one’s will and power, but there will be underlying insecurities with the use of one’s willpower because they haven’t quite figured out how to use it in a healthy way, which can make a person frustrated, impulsive, and aggressive.
As we found in looking at Saturn as the 2nd lord, Mars and Sun are hitting Saturn with starvation. Applying this to the 3rd House we find this will trigger frustration and a focus on one’s weaknesses centered on thoughts of falling behind in one’s efforts towards success. It will also negatively impact one’s personal desires, one’s sense of destiny and purpose, and one’s path of liberation.
Presley grew up in a family very much centered on living an exemplary religious life. Elvis was very open about his faith and recorded numerous gospel songs over the course of his career. Presley often lamented to people a desire to give up his career and devote his life to a spiritual path but couldn’t do so because he realized that many of his friends and associates relied on his career for their financial livelihood.
Saturn’s Anapha Yoga
Saturn is also forming an Anapha Yoga in Presley’s chart. An Anapha Yoga is formed by a planet, other than Sun, Rahu, or Ketu, residing in the 12th from the Moon. This yoga reveals the conditioning and demeanor through which the individual meets their life experiences.
Parashara outlines the positive results of this Yoga:
"One born in Anapha Yoga will be a king, a man of influence and authority, well dressed, virtuous, famous, strong, magnanimous, charming, good-natured, healthy, blessed with material comforts, and happy. One is calm in disposition, enjoying pleasures of the senses and peace of mind. One will have political wisdom, and moral training, know many sastras, be steadfast, honored, and have enormous wealth. He will possess a beautiful body and be capable of attracting the fairer sex.”[1]
Saturn is going to color the effects of this yoga by conditioning the individual’s consciousness through hardship, fear, limitation, and restraint to help strengthen and discipline the person toward being something greater, reflected in the positive results of this yoga.
Presley’s family was very poor. His poverty and his love of what was then termed hillbilly music alienated him from his peers and made him a target for bullying while growing up. Yet, Presley persevered in developing his personal desire to sing and play music.
However, the presence of Rahu will lessen the impact of this Yoga and bring some difficulties to it. Rahu leaves a murky haze in the sign it previously occupied, which is the sign of Pisces where the Moon resides. This “murky haze” will distort the general qualities and effects that the Moon brings to Pisces, creating an overall haze to one’s emotional nature that will cause detachment, eventually leading to more spiritual pursuits for one’s happiness.
The Drekkana
Saturn is exalted in the D3, indicating that Presley had more than enough persistence and discipline to achieve his desired goals.
Saturn is being aspected by the Sun. The Sun is in a great enemy’s dignity, indicating Presley won’t feel confident around individuals he perceives as authority figures, which creates insecurity, frustration, and a tendency to overcompensate as a result.
Mars is in an enemy’s dignity and is with Rahu in the D3, indicating confusion and a lack of confidence in the use of one’s creative energy.
Venus is debilitated and with its lord, Mercury, indicating Presley couldn’t diplomatically manage conflicts. Mercury’s exaltation will help Presley rationalize things in his mind but it doesn’t mean he will be able to resolve them in a way that is fair to everyone.
Jupiter is in its own house, indicating Presley had a wonderful capacity for drawing wisdom and joy from his creative energies. Moon is with Jupiter and in an enemy’s dignity, which is going to create a feeling of lonesomeness around his peers, but Jupiter should help to mitigate most of that.
The debilitation of Venus will impact Jupiter and Moon through its aspect, making one a little too gracious, receptive, and generous. This indicates Presley could be too accommodating because he didn’t want to make a fuss and be seen as rude.
Ketu is in Leo in the D7 and is being rasi aspected by Saturn, indicating Presley had enormous potential for growth through his interaction with others. However, the rasi aspect to Saturn from the Sun also speaks to a blind spot when it came to authority figures that were too hard to overcome.
The 4th House: Pisces
Pisces is the 12th Sign and it will give qualities of generosity, charisma, and magnetism to the House of one’s inner strength, mother, happiness, home, vehicles, and contentment.
The Moon is placed in the 4th. No planets are rasi aspecting the 4th.
The Moon is waxing but in an enemy’s dignity, which means that there will be a miserable quality to the Moon’s influence on the 4th House. Moon is also the lord of the 8th House, which will bring 8th House themes to the 4th. Qualities such as one’s emotional security, conjugal bonds, occult studies, and death will be themes of the 8th that will overshadow the 4th house of happiness and psychological well-being.
The Moon is in the 9th House from the 8th, which will bring luck and good fortune as well as wisdom. So while there will be a share of discomfort and misery that will be part of their 4th House experience, there will also be benefits coming from the Moon that will generate external increases over time.
The 4th Lord: Jupiter
Jupiter is placed in the 12th House of Scorpio and is in a great friend’s dignity. In exploring Jupiter as the 1st lord, we found that Presley would have trouble working with Jupiter and difficulty in deriving meaning from the karmic experiences of his Jupiter and will have trouble in facing conflicts in his life because he doesn’t know how to deal with them properly.
When applying the results of Jupiter’s Shadbala to the Bhava Yogas of the ruler of the 4th going into the 12th, we find that the person will be charitable and care deeply for others but will also suffer from emotional troubles that are going to play out in their spending habits.
We also found in our exploration of Jupiter that the Sun will give consistency through its rasi aspect and that the Moon and Mars will bring delight, fueling creativity, emotional discipline, and emotional security. Both planets will help to make the 4th House agendas of home, property, and vehicles manifest in delightful ways for Presley. Presley’s home, Graceland, was extensively remodeled and lavishly decorated over the course of his lifetime. He also had a love of cars and built a huge collection of them during his life.
We also found a level of starvation from Mercury and Venus towards Jupiter. The combined impacts of these planets will bring difficulties to one’s inner security, happiness, and contentment through overthinking and having trouble recognizing that life is often a balance of good and bad. This will disturb one’s psychological well-being and result in domestic troubles through over-identification and difficulty in relating to others emotionally.
The Chaturthamsa
We see that Jupiter is in neutral dignity in the D4, which means Presley had an average capacity for managing his assets. Mercury is the primary karaka for the D4. It is also in neutral dignity which means it will, likewise, give average capacity towards maintaining one’s assets.
Moon is in an enemy’s dignity, indicating trouble with accepting fortune. Sun is in a great friend’s dignity, indicating Presley had a strong capacity to confidently do the things needed to generate greater wealth. However, Rahu is aspecting both the Sun and Mercury, bringing confusion, poor decisions, and wastefulness around those indications.
Mars is exalted, indicating that one will express wealth through real estate and from the earth. Saturn is in a great enemy’s dignity, indicating trouble with doing the hard work necessary to achieve that greater wealth. Presley only performed four times outside of the United States due to a fear of flying. Saturn is aspecting Mars, indicating there will be a sense of lack around those indications of Mars. This adds further confluence to the notion that Presley’s spending was often fueled by insecurities and impulsiveness.
The 5th House: Aries
The 5th House is in Aries. This puts the House of creative intelligence and children on a foundation of initiative, ambition, and action.
We see that Saturn, Rahu, and Jupiter are rasi aspecting the 5th House.
Saturn is in its own house and its aspect will bring to the house of self-development a self-abiding quality to one’s 5th House agendas. However, Rahu is rasi aspecting along with Saturn, which is going to generate confusion around those personal desires. The combined effects of Saturn and Rahu will bring separation to the 5th House. Presley’s only child, Lisa Marie, was born in 1968. In the wake of the success of the ‘68 Comeback Special, Presley’s musical career surged, which left little time with his daughter.
Jupiter is in a friend’s dignity and its aspect will help reinforce abiding in one’s self by framing one’s creative activities in a greater philosophical or religious context, which will help to counter some of the confusion of Rahu.
The 5th Lord: Mars
Mars is in a friend’s dignity in the 11th House of Libra. Mars is in a Yuva state and is Svapna, which tells us that the karmas associated with Mars have reached an adult state and are just starting to become part of their conscious awareness.
The Shadbala of Mars
The total Shadbala score for Mars is 519.9. When we look at the Shadbala of Mars we find the following: Sthana Bala 185%, Dig Bala 182%, Kala Bala 279%, Ayana Bala 118%, Chesta Bala 93%, and Drig Bala +22.
We see great strength in integrity (Sthana), direction (Dig), confidence (Chesta), and dealing with conflicts (Ayana). This tells us that overall, Presley had little trouble with his Mars. Even though his Chesta Bala is under 100%, it is still at 93%. This means that he could be confident in the use of his Mars about 9 out of 10 times.
Mars has a yoga judgment score of +10.8/-1.6, indicating that the Bhava Yogas of the ruler of the 5th in the 11th will be overwhelmingly positive, giving Presley the capacity to know how to make the most of opportunities and to make money. This positive yoga will bring gains through entertainment and bring social recognition. They will know exactly what actions they need to perform in order to have their personal desires fulfilled and will be able to fulfill them easily.
Sun is bringing 119.0 points of delight to Mars, which will bring commitment and stability to the houses Mars rules. Sun is going to calm the restless tendencies of Mars by introducing a higher inspiration to their ambitions and drives.
Moon is bringing 288.7 points of delight to Mars. Moon aligns one’s consciousness to the ideas of their individual incarnation. This helps a person to identify and manifest their desires and creativity smoothly, making their achievement more easily accomplished. Moon is waxing, which will cause the agendas of Mars to grow over time.
Mercury is hitting Mars with 119.6 points of starvation and agitation. Mercury gets in the way of the decisiveness of Mars by presenting too many options to consider. Mercury tangles up Mars’ logic with a rationale to ponder the rules instead of doing what is right and true for the moment. There is also an expectation that everything should be as it was outlined and described to the person.
Presley’s manager, Col. Tom Parker, advised him to go into films after his service in the military ended in 1960, resulting in a series of musically based comedies featuring songs chosen by the studio. The films, while promising Presley the opportunity of proving himself as an actor, derailed his musical career by turning him into a caricature. This eventually led him to the decision to return to music exclusively in 1968.
The 6th House: Taurus
The 6th House is the House of one’s daily routine, debts, health, and obstacles. Taurus is the Sign of materialism, a love of money, and enjoyment of rich foods.
Mars, Sun, Mercury, and Venus the 6th lord, all rasi aspect the 6th House.
Mars is going to bring courage, logic, and initiative to the 6th of enemies, competitors, debt, and litigation. As ruler of the 5th and 12th Houses, the aspect of Mars will bring mantras, religious practices, liberation, and self-realization to the 6th house. Presley was a deeply religious person and his interest in spirituality was a lifelong interest in response to the day-to-day demands of his life.
Sun will bring vitality, consistency, and strength to the house of one’s duties in life, service, and daily routine. As a separating influence, Sun will influence the 6th with 9th House agendas of extensive travel. Presley toured extensively over the course of his life, sacrificing his marriage in service to the necessary duties of being an entertainer.
Mercury will bring short journeys, communication, exchange, and sociability to the house of working relationships, work environment, and subordinates. Mercury rules the 7th and 10th Houses and will bring the qualities of these houses into his 6th. Partnerships, the public, status, activity, and achievements in the world will be a part of their 6th house experience.
Venus will bring diplomacy, a love of the arts and music, comforts, luxuries, and a fondness for good foods to the house of health, bodily functions, diet, and nutrition. Venus is the lord of the 6th, so its aspect will help manifest the agendas of the 6th more smoothly.
The 6th Lord: Venus
Venus is in the 2nd House in a friend’s dignity and is conjunct with Mercury and the Sun. Venus is in a Bala state and is Svapna, indicating the karmas associated with Venus are relatively new and just beginning to come into Presley’s conscious awareness.
The Shadbala of Venus
The total Shadbala score for Venus is 364.0. When we look at the Shadbala of Venus we find the following: Sthana Bala 158%, Dig Bala 90%, Kala Bala 38%, Ayana Bala 10%, Chesta Bala 27%, and Drig Bala +15.
We see good strength in integrity (Sthana), direction (Dig), and overall success with Venusian-related things (Drig), but the remaining Shadbala scores for Venus are weak. This tells us that Presley had trouble working his Venus during its time periods (Kala) and he also had trouble staying the course on the path toward greater fulfillment (Ayana). There was also a lack of confidence (Chesta) in using his Venus.
The yoga judgment score for Venus is +5.7/-6.1, which tells us that the Bhava Yogas of the ruler of the 6th in the 2nd will be a mix of positive and negative. It will build one’s character from an early age, making one a hard worker who will find success in accruing wealth from that work. But that childhood will also be a difficult one and they will suffer from worry over one’s finances. As we found with the Anapha Yoga of Saturn, Presley had a difficult childhood that involved poverty and ostracism, but that experience served to strengthen him for greater success in adulthood.
Another negative indication of the yoga of the 6th in the 2nd is that it can generate a sensitivity to foods and deficits from medical remedies. As Presley’s career continued to surge in the late 1960s and into the 1970s, the demands of recording and touring made him turn increasingly to a regimen of stimulants and sedatives. In addition, Presley would often indulge in comfort foods rich in fat, sugar, and salt. Late in life, Presley suffered from constipation and an enlarged colon. These conditions, along with his long-time drug use, were contributing factors to his early death in 1977.
Sun is bringing 414.9 points of starvation and agitation to Venus. The starvation of the Sun is very significant, taking Venus down to -51.0 points, and making one sacrifice their relationships in the pursuit of their ambitions, trading potential fulfillment in those relationships for the status and gains their role in life brings. Presley spent very little time with his wife Priscilla over the course of their relationship which always seemed to come second to the demands of his career. The agitation of the Sun will add a quality of anger and self-righteousness to this separation.
Mercury is bringing 363.6 points of delight to Venus. Mercury is going to give a strong managing capacity that will help them to be effective at making good decisions. It will also make the person very “excited’, giving them a lot of energy toward new adventures and experiences, which can be draining to those around them.
Saturn is bringing 392.0 points of delight to Venus. Saturn is going to make the person feel fulfilled in their path. They are going to take the ups and downs in life realistically and in stride and have the capacity to be open to whatever life gives them.
The 7th House: Gemini
Gemini brings the foundational energy of geniality, communication, keeping up with trends, and maintaining a good appearance to the 7th House of social relationships, spouses, and one’s relationship to the public.
The Moon is the only planet rasi aspecting the 7th House.
Moon is going to bring 8th House energies of emotional security, unexpected breaks, and chronic disease to the House of the spouse, the public, important partners, and one’s public image.
The 7th Lord: Mercury
Mercury is in the 2nd House in a friend’s dignity and is conjunct with Sun and Venus. Mercury is in a Kumara state and is Svapna, indicating the karmas associated with Mercury are young and just starting to become a part of Presley’s conscious experience.
The Shadbala of Mercury
The total Shadbala score for Mercury is 363.5. When we look at the Shadbala of Mercury we find the following: Sthana Bala 83%, Dig Bala 133%, Kala Bala 67%, Ayana Bala 190%, Chesta Bala 30%, and Drig Bala +7.
Mercury is strong in direction (Dig) and in its capacity to stay the course of its path (Ayana), but it also suffers from weakness with its ability to be utilized during its periods (Kala) and its capacity to stand confidently (Chesta). Mercury has some strength in its integrity (Sthana), but its score means it will work for them 8 out of 10 times. Finally, we see that Presley will experience success overall with Mercurial things (Drig).
Mercury’s yoga judgment score is +4.2/-6.6., indicating that the Bhava Yogas of the lord of the 7th in the 2nd will lean slightly negative. On the positive side, it will give partnerships that yield financial success and success in maintaining those relationships. It will also give a beautiful face, a capacity for persuasive speech, and a good public image. Presley benefited from having many successful partnerships with musicians and business people who always helped him get to the next level of success, due in large part to Presley’s charming personality and on-stage persona.
But negatively, this yoga could make one pick bad business partners who take advantage of them. Standard contracts at the time usually gave management between 15-20%. The contract Presley signed with Colonel Tom Parker gave Parker 50% of Presley’s income from records and merchandise. This contract and subsequent others provided Parker with a steady income for many years after Presley’s death in 1977.
Another negative indication from this yoga is that one’s family can be broken through infidelity. Both Elvis and his wife, Priscilla, engaged in extramarital affairs over the course of their marriage, eventually leading to their separation and divorce in 1972.
Sun is giving 414.9 points of agitation, taking Mercury down to -51.5 points. Sun will make communication very painful for Presley by making it difficult to establish boundaries for being direct, which can make his communication less constructive due to the frustration this Avashta creates.
Mercury is t due to its close proximity to the Sun. This will reinforce the negative influences of the Bhava Yogas of Mercury as well as this painful Avashta of the Sun because it will bring another factor of weakness and difficulty in relationships.
Venus is giving Mercury 364.0 points of delight. Venus will make one charming and considerate. Because Venus and Mercury are together, it will make Presley gracious and enjoyable to be around. People will feel respected and, in turn, give respect.
The Saptamsa
Mercury is in a friend’s dignity in the D7, indicating Presley had little trouble managing his creative energy. Mercury is with Mars, who is in a great friend’s dignity, indicating Presley had a wonderful capacity for initiating his creativity and acting on his moral principles.
Jupiter, the primary karaka of the D7, is in neutral dignity. This indicates an average capacity for co-creating something with another that is going to live after them. But Jupiter is with the Moon is in a great friend’s dignity, which tells us that Presley had a great capacity for nurturing and sustaining his creative inspiration. Moon is going to give nourishment to Jupiter and make its effects increase over time.
Both Jupiter and Moon are rasi aspecting Mars and Mercury, indicating that Presley will have optimism and adaptability to maintain his creative self-expression during periods when frustration from overthinking might arise.
Sun is in a great friend’s dignity and is being rasi aspected by Venus, indicating Presley had a lot of energy behind his creativity and was able to enjoy the fruits of it and make the best decisions around it.
Venus also rasi aspects Saturn, indicating Presley could see his creative projects to completion because he could see the good things that can result from keeping at it.
The 8th House: Cancer
The 8th House represents intimate relationships, longevity, sexual strength and attractiveness, occult interests, and deeper emotions. Cancer is emotional availability, home, and mother.
Jupiter, Saturn, and Rahu are rasi aspecting the 8th House.
Jupiter will bring wisdom, grace, and fortune to the house of sudden breaks and changes. Jupiter will bring 1st and 4th House themes of the body, personality, happiness, mother, and one’s emotional environment to the 8th House of emotional defenses, chronic illness, and death.
Saturn will bring restriction, sorrow, detachment, and fear to the 8th of longevity, and unspoken emotions. As ruler of the 2nd and 3rd Houses, Saturn will bring themes of family, worth, personal desires, longevity, and short journeys to the 8th of purification, chronic disease, legacies, and transformation.
Rahu’s aspect is going to amplify that of Saturn. Since Rahu’s evolutionary goal is to develop the individual’s inner security through the testing of their beliefs, only then can the person know what is going to help them. Often in life, such developments come through 8th House themes of death, illness, and change.
The 8th Lord: Moon
Moon is in the 4th House of Pisces in an enemy’s dignity and is in a Mrita state and is Svapna, indicating the karmas associated with the Moon are dead and somewhat part of Presley’s conscious experience.
The total Shadbala score for Moon is 437.4. When we look at the Shadbala of the Moon we find the following: Sthana Bala 116%, Dig Bala 105%, Kala Bala 67%, Ayana Bala 110%, Chesta Bala 50%, and Drig Bala +53.
Moon is strong in its capacity for integrity (Sthana), direction (Dig), staying the course of one’s path (Ayana), and will be very successful in the overall agendas of the Moon (Drig). However, there is a weakness in the capacity in being able to make use of the Moon during its periods (Kala) and in being able to work the Moon with confidence (Chesta).
Moon has a yoga judgment score of +3.8/-3.4, indicating the Bhava Yogas of the 8th lord in the 4th will be a mix of positive and negative. This will make Presley very empathetic and intuitive, which will also make him prone to mental disturbances and imbalances. It will bring a capacity to connect with and support people on an emotional level, but there will also be times when Presley will feel isolated and fall into a victim mentality.
Having the lord of the 8th going into the 4th makes one’s mother intuitive and it can bring the sudden loss of one’s mother through its influence. Presley’s relationship with his mother, Gladys, was extremely close and mutually adoring. Her sudden death in 1958 was a loss he never got over.
Sun is giving the Moon 51.1 points of delight. Sun will make for a strong personality that will think and act in honorable ways, generating a personality that reflects and embodies their higher ideals and aspirations.
Mercury is adding 29.4 points of delight to the Moon. Mercury will give opportunities to explore and surround them with people who will help and support those explorations, which will help the person make the most of everything.
The 9th House: Leo
Leo is leadership, loyalty, generosity, showmanship, self-promoting, and the capacity to love deeply. The 9th House is luck, fortune, marriage, purpose, religious or philosophical principles, and deeper understanding.
Ketu is placed in the 9th House and Mars, Sun, Mercury, and Venus rasi aspect it.
Ketu’s placement tells us that in past lifetimes, the individual found security through belief systems to the extent that they became identified with them. Having Ketu’s lord Rasi aspecting will add strength to the individual’s capacity to draw from their Ketu effectively.
Mars is going to bring a sense of right and wrong to its aspect of the 9th House of religious and philosophical principles. Through its rulership of the 5th and 12th Houses, themes of spiritual practices and rituals and material detachment will color the 9th.
Sun is the lord of the 9th and its aspect will strengthen its own home with consistency and vitality, reinforcing the separating aspect of sacrifice for one’s higher inspirations.
Mercury will give communication, short journeys, sociability, and a sharp mind to the 9th of intellectual convictions, the need to expand a person’s horizons through travel, grace, and deeper insights. As ruler of the 7th and 10th Houses, Mercury will color the 9th with relationships, public exchanges, fame, activities that benefit society, and good deeds.
Venus gives balance, compromise, music, and charisma to the 9th of grace, good fortune, and performance of good deeds.
The 9th Lord: Sun
Sun is in the 2nd House of Capricorn in neutral dignity. Sun is in a Yuva state and is Sushupti, indicating that the karmas of the Sun are fully grown but aren’t part of Presley’s conscious experience.
The Shadbala of the Sun
The total Shadbala score for Sun is 414.9. When we look at the Shadbala of the Sun we find the following: Sthana Bala 105%, Dig Bala 53%, Kala Bala 141%, Ayana Bala 8%, Chesta Bala 5%, and Drig Bala +1.
Sun is weak in its capacity to act in confidence (Chesta), take direction (Dig), and in staying the course of its path (Ayana). The Sun has strength in integrity (Sthana) and Presley will be able to make the most of his Sun periods (Kala), but overall, will not be successful with the agendas of his Sun.
Venus is hurting the Sun to 364.0 points of starvation. The starvation of Venus will distract Presley by making him rely too much on the counsel of others over his own sense of knowing, which will sidetrack him.
Saturn is hitting the Sun with 392.0 points of starvation. The starvation of Saturn will generate a lack of confidence in Presley that will result in him not managing his life circumstances wisely. This will result in overcompensation which can result in making the wrong decision at the wrong time and in the wrong place.
Mars is bringing 481.8 points of delight to Sun, giving the strength of courage and appropriate action to the Sun’s aspirations and inspirations.
Jupiter is bringing 92.7 points of delight to Sun. The delight of Jupiter will give the Sun the wisdom to rule and make the best decisions, making the aspirations and inspirations of the Sun even greater.
The Navamsa
Sun is in Gemini in the D9 in an enemy’s dignity, which means Presley had difficulty in consistently managing his marital life. Jupiter’s aspect from its own sign of Sagittarius will help by giving him a belief system that is going to frame things in the context of the “bigger picture” of life.
The primary karaka for the D9 is Venus and its debilitation here tells us that Presley doesn’t have any capacity to make the best decisions for a healthy marriage because he lacked the ability to take his partner’s needs into consideration. The rasi aspect debilitated Venus to both Sun and Jupiter will hurt the agendas of both in the D9 through mistresses and a lack of fairness and devotion.
Mars is exalted in the D9 and its dignity will bring good judgment to the relationship. Unfortunately, this will not help with one’s marriage path since it isn’t aspecting Jupiter, Sun, or Venus. Instead, Mars will give the logic to learn and grow through compromise as Mars aspects the Lagna and influences Moon and Mercury who provide adaptability and relatability to Presley’s sense of self in his role as a marriage partner.
We also see that the lord of Mars, Saturn, is in a great friend’s dignity in Taurus and is being aspected by Rahu in Libra. This tells us that while Saturn has the capacity to support and strengthen Mars, Rahu will bring confusion and misunderstandings to the relationship. Rahu negatively impacts the gains of marriage through secrets and mistrust that will eventually erode happiness and negatively impact the longevity of the marriage.
The 10th House: Virgo
Virgo is perfection, serving others, sensitive prudent, hardworking, and idealistic. The 10th House is one’s career, status, activity in the world, and professional achievement.
Moon is the only planet that is rasi aspecting the 10th House.
Moon will bring its qualities of self-expression and instinct to the house of professional success and fame.
The 10th Lord: Mercury
As we found when evaluating Mercury as the 7th lord, Mercury is in the 2nd House in a friend’s dignity. It is conjunct with Sun and Venus and its karmas are young and just starting to become a part of Presley’s conscious experience.
Mercury is combust. Its total Shadbala score is 363.5. When we look at the Shadbala of Mercury as lord of the 7th House, we find Mercury strong in its capacity for directing the individual and in keeping them on their path. But, there was also a weakness with the person to stand confidently in their Mercury and make good use of it during its periods. Finally, we saw that overall, Mercurial things will work out for them, and will be able to stand in their Mercury 80% of the time.
Mercury’s yoga judgment score is +4.2/-6.6, indicating that the Bhava Yogas of the lord of the 10th in the 2nd will lean slightly negative. On the positive side, this will give Presley the capacity to handle responsibility and take care of others. He will have the capacity to work to benefit society and inspire action through the use of his voice.
Negatively, this yoga can make one overwhelmed by their responsibilities. They won’t get paid their fair share and will experience mistreatment by one’s authority figures. Col. Parker’s contract stole much of Presley’s money. There was always a steady flow of cash, yet little was actually being saved.
Sun is giving 414.9 points of agitation, taking Mercury down to -51.5 points. When agitating Mercury, Sun will make communication very painful due to trouble with establishing boundaries for being direct and explicit. The frustration this creates can lead to communication that is more destructive than constructive.
Mercury is combust due to its close proximity to the Sun. The combust nature of Mercury will reinforce the negative Bhava Yogas and the agitation of the Sun as it will bring weakness and difficulty with authority figures.
Venus is giving Mercury 364.0 points of delight. Venus will make one charming and considerate. Because Venus and Mercury are together, it will make Presley gracious and enjoyable to be around. People will feel respected and, in turn, give respect.
The 11th House: Libra
Libra is comforting, friendly, flexible, and diplomatic and it will bring these qualities to the 11th of gains, social involvement, and the goals of one’s desires and ambitions.
Mars is placed in the 11th House. Saturn and Rahu rasi aspect it.
Mars is going to bring its qualities of restlessness, conviction, and independent action to the House of greatest desires and social involvement. Mars rules the 5th and 12th Houses, which means themes of creativity, self-expression and play, a sense of destiny, expenses, ashrams, and places of confinement will be part of the 11th House affairs of one’s hopes and dreams, validation, and protections received.
Saturn will bring perseverance, hard work, and determination to the house of ambition and validation. Saturn rules the 2nd and 3rd Houses, indicating themes of meeting one’s responsibilities, wealth, courage, and personal desires will be part of the 11th’s agendas of one’s greatest desires, income, and gains.
Rahu will cause separation through its aspect, which will bring confusion because Rahu is about leading us out of the familiar and into something new. The separation of Rahu will bring discomfort because there is always an element of the unknown associated with it.
The 11th Lord: Venus
In our exploration of Venus as the 6th lord, we saw that its karmas are just emerging and just beginning to come into Presley’s conscious awareness and the Shadbala score for Venus is 364.0. When we look at the Shadbala of Venus we found that Venus had good strength in integrity, direction, and achieving overall success with Venusian-related things. But we also found trouble when it comes to having the confidence in using their Venus, particularly during Venusian periods, and in being able to stay on their path that leads towards greater fulfillment.
We also saw that the yoga judgment score for Venus is +5.7/-6.1, which tells us that the Bhava Yogas of the ruler of the 11th in the 2nd will be a mix of positive and negative. This Yoga will make Presley supportive towards his community of fans and in turn, also receive support from that community. It will also bring sudden gains in income and for one to receive titles. Presley was dubbed the “King of Rock and Roll”, a moniker that remains to this day and is due in very large part to the huge gains he received in his career from his loyal and supportive fan base.
The negative indications of this yoga will bring trouble in meeting one’s responsibilities due to a focus on the achievement of success and subsequent validation stemming from one’s greatest desires. It can also produce eye trouble. Presley suffered from glaucoma towards the end of his life.
As we found in our analysis of Venus as lord of the 5th, Sun is hurting Venus significantly with agitation and starvation which is going to reinforce the negative aspect of the Bhava Yogas for this lord. This will cause Presley to sacrifice the fulfillment of his relationships for the attainment of one’s status and gains his role in life brings. There will be a quality of anger and self-righteousness associated with this separation due to the agitation the Sun is also giving Venus.
Mercury and Saturn will both delight Venus and give it the capacity to be effective at making good decisions and will direct a lot of energy towards new adventures and experiences, which is going to make the person feel fulfilled in their path.
The 12th House: Scorpio
Scorpio is the sign of one’s deeper, psychological, and innermost states. The 12th House represents one’s inner psyche, liberation, and losses.
Sun, Mercury, and Venus are rasi aspecting the 12th House and we have Jupiter placed in the 12th.
Sun will bring confidence, authority, and strength of character to the house of ashrams, and dissolution of worldly ambitions.
Mercury will bring rational intelligence, business activities, speech, and short journeys to the house of secret enemies, imagination, and one’s inner psychic world.
Venus will bring romance, luxuries, conveyances, and music to the house of bed pleasures, secret relationships, and dreams.
Jupiter resides in the 12th House and is in a great friend’s dignity. Jupiter rules the 1st and 4th Houses, so these agendas will be tied to the 12th, which makes the impact of the Moon stronger in regards to the 12th. Jupiter is the planet of the bigger picture. It brings faith, optimism, and luck to the 12th.
Jupiter’s total Shadbala score is 381.6 and its yoga judgment score is slightly negative at +4.7/-5.0, which tells us that it had a solid capacity to bring good to the 12th. Presley was known to be very lavish in his spending. He was very generous and gracious in the use of his wealth. Jupiter and the Waxing Moon ensured that Presley would always have an abundance to spend.
However, the dignity of the Waxing Moon indicates a feeling of discontentment around this. Saturn’s impact is going to bring separation from one’s desire for it and responsibility towards it.
The 12th Lord: Mars
Mars is in the 11th House of Libra in a friend’s dignity. As we found with the assessment of Mars as the 5th lord, the karmas associated with it have reached an adult state but are just starting to become part of Presley’s conscious awareness.
Mars has a yoga judgment score of +10.8/-1.6, indicating that the Bhava Yogas of the ruler of the 12th in the 11th is going to be overwhelmingly positive, which will turn losses into gains for Presley. Despite lavish spending habits, Elvis never suffered from difficulty in covering his expenses.
This Yoga also brings gains from spiritual activities and a capacity for meditation that can lead to higher states. Presley’s fame and generosity were his practice of Karma Yoga, liberation through selfless action.
When exploring Mars as the 5th lord, we found Mars had a strong overall Shadbala score, indicating Presley had little trouble utilizing his Mars. We found both Sun and Moon delighting Mars, giving inspiration, consistency, and a connection to one’s individualized sense of self that is going help Mars to identify and achieve its desires easily.
We also saw that Mercury was hurting Mars noticeably with starvation and agitation, which will sidetrack Mars occasionally with too much overthinking.
Conclusion
Elvis Presley achieved a level of fame and fortune that remains singular. Some individuals achieve great wealth, others enjoy great popularity and a few others influence the direction of society and culture. Presley managed to do all three at once and because of this, his life and his chart will always be a fertile field of exploration.
